The Irish have identified a variety called Speedy
with good resistance to this late season disease
which can strip leaf and damage cob development. More work is being done
to identify varieties
which are resistant.
Main cultural control measures

| Avoid growing continuous Maize |
| Always plough deeply to bury trash |
| Sow 3-or more varieties -
preferably by mixing seed pre drilling with similar maturity rating in at risk situations - eg 2nd year maize |
| Spraying is impractical |
